MCI researcher Dr Tao Wang awarded 3-year Hallsworth funding

Dr Wang obtained his Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Manchester in 2021 with his doctoral research focusing on how the informal rule of guanxi affects political representation in Taiwan. After completing his Ph.D. in the 2021-2022 academic year, Dr Wang worked at the MCI as a Research Associate on several projects about both Taiwanese and Chinese public opinion, where he collaborated widely with a global network of scholars. Dr. Wang also initiated the highly successful Early Career Researcher talks series at the MCI, enabling many young scholars to present their research to a multidisciplinary group of peers.

As a Hallsworth Research Fellow, Dr. Wang is formulating a new project about Chinese views of cross-strait relations. The study will examine the increasingly bellicose rhetoric about cross-strait relations in Chinese public opinion and explore the driving forces behind it.
