Stipendiary Lecturer in Mathematical Analysis

Christ Church invites applications for a fixed-term Stipendiary Lecturership in Mathematics. This appointment is available for the period 09 January 2023 to 08 July 2023, with the possibility of renewal. This is a temporary, fixed-term position to fulfil a current teaching need. It is envisaged that teaching arrangements for Mathematics will be reviewed at the end of this period, therefore, the appointment carries with it no expectation of permanent employment at Christ Church.

The Lecturer will be expected to deliver six hours per week of high-quality tutorial teaching, averaged over the two remaining eight-week terms of the academic year and weighted in accordance with the Senior Tutors’ Committee recommendations, to undergraduates on the Mathematics and Joint Schools degrees.

The successful candidate will be expected teach topics including, Second Year (Part A) Metric Spaces and Complex Analysis, Linear algebra, Rings and Modules, Topology, Integration, and First Year (Prelims) Analysis and Linear algebra, as well as contributing to the Intercollegiate Class Scheme (Parts B and C) on Christ Church’s behalf. The precise mix of courses to be taught may depend on the particular expertise of the successful candidate and the option choices made by the students, but the courses listed indicate the relevant broad area of mathematics. The salary will be in the range of £14,381-£16,174 (current rates), according to qualifications and experience. New appointments are usually made at the first point of the scale.

Applicants should have evidence of the skills needed for higher education teaching in tutorial or small group settings, a research record commensurate with the stage of their career; and have, or be close to completing, a doctorate in Mathematics, or a closely related field.
