We are looking for candidates with an outstanding research record, with a particular interest in scholars whose conceptual innovations have made a substantial original contribution to the field of global politics.

The successful candidate will be based in Critical Global Politics, the largest of five research clusters in the Department. Enhanced by 10 appointments over the recent REF cycle, the shared themes of Critical Global Politics include: critical theories of international politics; gender and security; war, intervention and the responsibility to protect; identity, racialisation, and migration; and China. The cluster hosts the Review of International Studies, and has recently been the recipient of numerous grants and awards including a £5m donation to support the Manchester China Institute, a large ESRC grant on immigration and Chinese society and a prize for research within the cluster on the UN Security Council. The cluster sits within the larger Department of Politics, whose research strengths are reflected, among other things, in the 2021 REF in which the Department was placed 8th out of 56 in the UK on Grade Point Average (GPA), 5th on publications and 3rd on 4* publications.
