Every year, the Careers Service run a programme of events specifically designed for final-year students right after they finish their exams, and this year is no exception! Here are five reasons you should come along to Future Fortnight, between 12-13 June.
1. Develop an effective graduate job hunting strategy
Get started with an efficient and successful job search, with our Career Planning Masterclass and Recruiter’s Tips for Job Hunting sessions. If you’re an international student looking to stay in the UK, we have a session on Finding a Job in the UK as an International Student, and if you’re a home student looking to make a fresh start in a new city or country, there’s Relocating as a New Graduate.
2. Boost your employability and applications
Once you’ve found a job that you’re interested in and want to apply for, you need a CV that’s going to impress. We have Future Fortnight sessions on Getting CV Ready and Personal Branding, and if your CV needs bulking up a bit before you’re ready to polish it, check out Skills Employers Want…and How to Get Them. Once that has all worked its magic and you bag an interview, you’ll need our Getting Interview Ready workshop to seal the deal!
3. Learn more about Manchester Graduate Talent
Our Manchester Graduate Talent (MGT) scheme offers paid entry-level job opportunities for UoM final-year students and recent graduates, both within the University and in local small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). We have two different MGT sessions this Future Fortnight – one that will introduce the scheme and give you some handy application tips, and a panel event where you’ll be able to see what graduates have gone on to do after their internship.
4. Get support with researching and applying for Master’s and PhDs
If you’re looking into further study rather than a graduate job, don’t worry! There are still sessions that will be useful to you. There’s Thinking About a Master’s? Everything You Need to Know, and if you’ve already done a post-grad degree there’s also a session for people considering a PhD.
5. Network with alumni
There will be many opportunities to meet alumni panellists at Future Fortnight events – such as the Master’s and PhD sessions, and those relating to (re)location. There’s also Sharing Disability Confidently with Employers, and Getting a Job in Sustainability. These sessions will be a great chance to ask questions to people who have the expertise and expand your professional network by asking them to connect on LinkedIn afterwards!
Whichever one of these is your main priority as you become a UoM grad, there’s definitely a Future Fortnight session that will help you achieve your goal. There will also be three in-person drop-in sessions, and a Finalist Careers Q&A for any more general questions you might have. See you there!
